Safety
Henkels & McCoy's Safety Transformation fuels our vision: To be the safest contractor in the markets we serve and fulfill our goal and daily mission of Nobody Gets Hurt! The principles that drive our safety culture spring to life through initiatives designed to maximize the way we communicate, investigate, develop rules, and observe behavior. From the Executive Council to Regional Safety Steering Teams to Process Improvement Teams to each and every H&M employee, safety represents a Value, one that is interwoven into our culture and daily practices.
In order to achieve our objectives, we are forging a new, proactive approach to safety. Traditional trailing indicators of performance (OSHA Recordable Rate, Experience Modification Rating (EMR), and Days Away, Restricted Duty, and Transfers (DART)), are being analyzed from a fresh perspective focusing on identification and management of root causes, whether present in the environment, mindsets, or traditional ways of doing things that demand updating. The resultant cultural transformation, process improvements, and learning activities are centered on the evolution of leading indicators such as training and safety coaching observations, whose real world value lies in systematic, reproducible, and principle-focused initiatives.
Results During the last five years (2007-2011), Henkels & McCoy's OSHA recordable rate and our Lost Time Incident rate have both improved by nearly 55%.

Industry Leadership In 2004, Henkels & McCoy joined with OSHA, the IBEW, industry groups (EEI, NECA), and five other contractors as a founding member of the ET&D Strategic Partnership. The Partnership's goal is to reduce fatalities, injuries, and illnesses. Initiatives include the development of "Best Practices" and training programs specifically targeting the power transmission and distribution industry.
The Partnership has been renewed several times, most recently in 2010. Specific accomplishments include the implementation of OSHA approved T&D 10-Hour training program for electrical power employees and a Supervisory Leadership Program known as the ET&D 20-Hour Program. The 20-Hour Program emphasizes supervisor and management knowledge and skills development. H&M has committed to train all supervisors and managers (in all lines of business) on this program.

Quality
Quality is defined by the customer. Henkels & McCoy understands that the term "quality assurance" requires collective action and accountability. True continuous improvement is a result of systematic planning, execution, coordination, and verification. Our belief in peak performance cuts across all areas of our business and comes to life through our Corporate Quality Assurance group. This unit has a central role in developing processes and mechanisms to stimulate consistent, proactive dialogue with customers throughout the relationship.
In addition, this unit focuses on internal communication and benchmarking to identify and apply organization wide best practices. Through this process, we collectively become as strong as our strongest practice. Both Henkels & McCoy and our customers reap the benefits. |
