H&M Crew Encounters Eagle Nest
July 7, 2021At the end of 2020, H&M crews were scheduled to work on a project in New Jersey when they were debriefed about a Bald Eagle’s nest on one of the structures designated to be replaced.
With the support of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the crew was able to safely remove the nest and wrap it thoroughly for storage in a large container without damage while the new structure was installed. Once the new structure was erected, the crew installed a specialty Eagle’s Nest Platform along with a camera for the NJDEP to monitor the Bald Eagle. All aspects of this detailed work had to be done by December 31, 2020 because from January 1, 2021 through July 31, 2021, the crews had to halt all work within 1,000 feet of the structure to protect the Bald Eagle.
In April, the NJDEP noted the Bald Eagle had returned to the nest and laid two eggs! As of early July, the nest is still in use.
